I don’t know if this conversation has been had but since I just rediscovered this blog, I thought I would bring it up.
I would like to know what are your thoughts and opinions about Myvidster.com and piracy?
I have a love/hate relationship with Myvidster. I love Myvidster because of all the amateur content but I hate the site because they make it easy to download full length exclusive content.
I don’t know how many times I have worked for hours updating the site with my promos only to find out that my readers can go to Myvidster and see the videos in full.
My niche is black/urban gay porn. My demographic is 18-24 year old male college students. It’s already a pain trying to score a sale but to having to compete with sites like that boils me.
Some studios (Entertainment West, Flava Works) are good with sending DCMAs to Myvidster/sites that upload to Myvidster but I notice a couple of those studios don’t even bother trying to have those videos taken down.
I notice a LOT of mainstream studio’s content as well.
I would like to know how you guys feel about this. Are you guys having this problem too?
Ever since a judge decided that ‘leeching sites’ (which this is) are not responsible for the content (because they don’t host it), myvidster has stopped responding to dmca messages. The only recourse is to make sure the files are taken down at their source. Then they disappear naturally from myVidster.
It’s a very troubling legal turn of events on one hand. On the other hand it cuts down on the sites that will actually host content, making it easier to cut down a whole tree by removing its roots, if that makes sense.
I knew that was going to come up. Yea I heard that Marcus (CEO of Myvidster) was sued but the judge ruled in favor of Myvidster. Marcus gets a lot of traffic and a lot of that traffic is because of copyrighted videos. This is why the kids love his site, they know they can download the videos on there. I’ve been trying to go after the other feeder sites (Pornhub, GayForIt,Manhub) and trying to get the videos taken down but it is extremely hard and frustrating.
I don’t want to see Myvidster go but I DO want to get rid of the people who are putting up these copyrighted videos.
Interesting. So why couldn’t this apply to torrent sites? After all it’s just posting “bits of information” to where files reside. Very similar to MyVidster really in principle.
Yes, and in fact some torrent sites are quoting that judge now as their reason for not complying with DMCAs. That judgement has had horrible effects all around.
MyVidster and it’s owners deserve their own special circle of Hell in Dante’s Inferno. And Google should be financially liable for sending them all
their customers from their search results…
I like your thoughts on Myvidster and piracy Steve. My thoughts are the same as yours for them and any other sites that operate just like them as well.
