There was a mention on another webmaster board, about an article claiming that WIKI is pulling traffic away from the SE. In fact it is claiming a drop of SE traffic by 7% as more surfers are starting to go to wiki over Google & the Others
THe author of the comment can’t find the article, yet I wonder if perhaps that change can account for some of the weirdness we are seeing in traffic, and sales. People are simply going elsewhere for answers, including social sites. After all, how much time do surfers have, to find something?.
So where do you go to find your information first, the SE or Wiki?
I know when checking out plugin & themes for Wordpress, I go to Wiki first, as they generally have good instructions, information about those plugins & themes, than by searching Google for the instructions. Many new themes, for example, have their own wiki pages, that include a changelog, wishlist, and best of all, instructions.
IF true, how can adult sites get a piece of that free targetted traffic? Any ideas?
That’s interesting and Ithink this poster be correct. If I look at my own search habits, I always used to go to google, but since about a year I try to find most of the info on wiki.
The problem with Wiki is that it’s maintained by a lot of self important idiots. I’ve tried to add GayDemon to wiki in the past as it’s a registered trademark and unique word. But each time I’ve encountered the same editor who obviously deals with words starting with Gay… or something. He won’t have it no matter what I put in there. The article i tried to enter didn’t even include any links or porn related words.
yet others have no problem getting listed. JUB is listed with links + porn words… It’s all down to what pig-headed editor you fortunate or unfortunate to encounter.
Always going to be a problem with such a resource run by people with their own interest and their own self-importance… I guess some editors get to feel they have power over others or something. At least Google has a corporate structure and always go by rules, for better and worse.

Tell me about it. They don’t allow blogs, forums or anything of that nature. I had a big argument with them on those issues and they blocked me for a week.
