tumblr has never allowed you to upload porn videos. They have always deleted them, they don’t want the bandwidth.
This is someone thinking that tumblr is anti-porn when they’re really just anti-porn video.

I think they still let you use embed codes for porn videos… I see videos on there all the time.

Yes, just use the embed from xvideos or where ever you upload to. Tumblr does not want you to use their BW for porn, but otherwise videos are fine. Also, the reason I mention xvideos is because their embeds work on Tumblr, I forget which tube sites embeds don’t work, but there are a few that don’t embed right.

I must say I’m confused. I regularly see videos that certainly do seem as if they are hosted on tumblr itself. Take this video for instance:

You’ll notice that the player has a distinct look and I think it’s characteristic of tumblr videos (notice the annoying absence of any sound control, or at least a mute button). When I try to download this video using a chrome addon for that purpose, chrome says that the video is being downloaded from this location:

So, was this video embedded from some other site or is it really hosted on tumblr? One can find tons of such videos on tumblr, this is not an exception.
But when I tried once to upload my own jerkoff video to tumblr they promptly deleted it with the explanation that they don’t want the bandwidth costs.

There was a time where they allowed videos to be loaded. I used to load them all the time for my previous job (BelAmi), then all of the sudden however long ago they stopped allowing it. I later moved to embedding videos though many older videos were still there.

Tumblr used to allow porn videos to be uploaded, but then (9-12 months ago?) they instituted a policy of no porn videos and as Michael says the reason was bandwidth.
That means there are a bunch of old videos in the system that still get reblogged. Often you’ll notice the videos have 10,000 or more notes. I’m sure a few new ones sneak in every now and then as well.
And yes, embed codes are OK, BUT they changed their implementation of those starting in early April. Previously the embed codes would play in the main timeline (the user’s Dashboard). Now you get a graphic that makes you click and go to the Tumblr blog to view the video. When they instituted that, the number of people loading my players literally droped in halfâ¦
However, the impact on actual seconds of video played was far less dramaticâ¦

This is actually a really good thread but I’m not sure anyone who knows will answer how porn is currently uploaded. I see it every day go thru and appear in the tumblr HTML5 player… and in the source its hosted by Tumblr… but when I upload porn videos they’re removed within 5 minutes and I get a scathing auto-generated email

Looks like rawTOP is correct - after checking my Tumblr feed, the only embedded HTML5 videos were ones that have been passed around the network forever - “42,877 notes” “6,129 notes” “17,531 notes”
This development also explains why there are so lots more animated gifs. Clearly, Tumblr doesn’t want to become a hosting/streaming platform for porn, which amongst other things, means it’s stepping back from distributing copyrighted videos. I think conceptually this makes it more interesting as a blogging platform — and I’ve actually been concentrating this Spring on better using my Tumblr to very good success.
