I was just looking at the join page on The Guy Site and I see they’re now offering a cross promotion with Mansites.com when you join TGS (3 day trial and then get hit with a $39.95 fee if you don’t cancel in time).
I hate cross-sells like this and that alone could be a whole topic for discussion but instead let me ask for more info about Mansites because I’m honestly not that familiar with them. It looks like they mostly offer content from the Buddy Profit sites, but are there more sites included? I couldn’t really tell from looking at their home page.
Yes, Mansites was in the AVS business model. I’m not sure what business model they’re calling themselves now.
naked, think of AVS as the blog or tube of the late 90s / early 00s, it was the business model du jour.
Essentially a webmaster like yourself would create a gallery of content, you would submit a public page to services like Mansites or MANcheck (and others that no longer exist), the AVS would list your public page, and if surfers wanted inside to see the content they’d have to buy the AVS membership.
Typically a membership to an AVS gave you access to every site that had been submitted by other webmasters. Access to some sites required premium memberships, but to keep it simple, if an AVS like MANcheck (and I used to work for them) had 30,000 sites, then members got access to them all.
I can’t see what a member is getting with Mansites because all the clicks take you to the join page, there doesn’t seem to be able to take a peek at what you’re getting.
At the height back in the 90s, there were dozens of different AVS companies, but these were the main ones: Adult Check, MANcheck, UGAS, Global Male Pass, and Mansites.
Mansites is still around, in business, and quite profitable for those using it.
I’m the affiliate manager for both www.mansites.com and www.sexkey.com (which also has a nice gay section) in addition to being the Sales Director at PAYZE.COM
I actively buy cross sales for Mansites too including the one you mentioned. That particular deal works very well for both parties. It doesn’t decrease sales at all, in fact it increases the site join revenue. Anyone wishing to work with us, please let me know.
Perhaps internet porn should use CLOTHING FASHION as a business model. There really is nothing new…it’s just all recycled every decade or so…I mean, I have been told in fashion, not to throw anything away because eventually it will be in style again.
So perhaps it’s time for the AVS to make a come back! I am not just kidding here folks. If you can’t beat the tube sites then beat them at their own game…put together a number of quality sites under one AVS and sell the access to a huge number of quality SITES with one password rather than just one.
If people are willing to purchase a password to see basically unrelated random videos on a tube why not by one “master password” for a large number of quality sites. Yes, I know that some programs already do this with networks of sites that a member can access BUT nothing like in the days of the AVS.
It would not even have to be complete sites…my site for example, I could put a select number of models and videos under the AVS version that they would get access to (just as was done with the AVS model) and if they really like it they could go to the main site and buy a site to the entire site.

Everything old is new again! What say you all?[/QUOTE]I say yes, of course. We tried to re-ignite with this idea a few years ago but I don’t think the industry (which at that time had full-on tube fever) was ready for it.
But that actual concept of a big directory of different niche sites, offered for free with a multitude of upselling going on inside is not only a great idea, but one that has a distinctly proven track record. AVS made a lot of people rich. It could easily be re-fired if people were willing to come on board once again. The affiliates that remain at Mansites do quite well, but they are much more clever with their mousetraps now. As we all should be.
I encourage anyone reading this far to have a look at us at www.mansites.com and reconsider the AVS model. I’m happy to provide tips and examples as well.
It’d be nice if we could actually see some of the sites that use Mansites, your site list is full of sites that just goes to the billing page. In this climate I really can’t see that selling many memberships. Plus your “sites” page has six traffic leaks in the form of banners.
I did AVS for a lot of years and I’m one of the people that made a shit load of money. I even continued making scads of money long after everyone else was saying, “AVS is dead.”
I’m always willing to try new things, but I’d need to see some hardcore proof that a one-page tour (okay, two pages if you click on ‘sneak peek’) convincing people to grab a “free” membership is going to make me any money.
Show me someone who is actually making money and I’ll happily consider it. I’ve got networks just sitting out there making nothing.
