I’ve noticed it everywhere, from my local restaurants, the supermarket, the gas pump and even my Tax Preparers Accounting fees…no matter what it is I’m paying for, prices are going up and so are my expenses.
Yet when I look at porn paysites, the prices have remained the same for the last 20 years. Some sites I see are even cheaper than they were 10 or 15 years ago, or constantly running heavy discounts and promotions. Meanwhile, the cost of hiring talent continues to rise, we currently pay more than twice what we used to.
Has anybody tried raising their prices and seeing what happens? At what point does our industry also have to account for inflation and raise our prices?
Please let me know what you think and how you are handling inflation, rising model costs and the increased cost of doing all business.
We are trialling some too. The market will dictate what they are willing to pay, and I can’t see the market willing to pay more with all other expenses rising. But I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
It’s a catch 22… really the prices has to go up, everything else is. But also a porn membership is a luxury item really, so the question is if its something people will make a saving on and a higher cost might make it more likely that they will OR is it’s a small luxury they will reward themselves?
Don’t know… but would a small increase be noticeable to subscribers?
Thank you for the feedback everyone, it is definitely a catch 22. On our end, we are going to try what I call the “More bang for your buck” method of raising prices but also adding more value for the raised price. So for example we are adding a 4k download option to PeterFever.com, if they want the downloads they will have to pay more but for those on a budget they can keep the lower streaming only price.
I think Helix tried the split price point for a while, with cheaper streaming only, but then went back again…
We have individual downloads available for expired members as a solution to buffer any decline we may face in membership, but as we haven’t worked out how to integrate it with NATs yet, we haven’t started pushing it.
It looks like now Helix is now offering the streaming and download option only with a first month at $19.95 rebilling at $34.95.
I am curious how that works for them. My feeling is it kind of punishes your customers for their loyalty and you’d get a lot that join and then cancel right away. Giving the customers too many choices on pricing can also backfire though. I guess all we can do is keep testing.
