A interesting interview with Private’s owner who now also owns MaleFlixxx, about how he intends to give away all porn for free. Why would anyone want to be an affiliate of theirs now, according to them we’re pointless and not needed?

Well…let’s hope not every producer is going to take on that business model. Or yes, our jobs will go out the window. Milton and his idea are already going to mess up the current way of promoting. And that’s just one company.
Is this a sign of the future? Gawd I hope not!

Well it certainly interesting, if not a little zany. I think when he talks about “giving away” content he means the Private Studio line - not the studios on their VOD platforms.

I can see things from his perspective where they are branching out and have a lot more avenues to cross promote with mainstream in different arenas. So of course the current adult model seems outdated to him!

Brent from Maleflixxx here. I wanted to jump in here to clarify things. Although we are under the Private Media umbrella of companies, we have no intention of changing our current business model which is much different than Private (a content producer). In fact we are adding products in order for content producers to increase their revenues and so that affiliates can monetize their traffic. We are simply a âdistribution/affiliateâ arm of Private Media. The article is referencing Privateâs (mostly straight) enormous catalogue.
In other words, it’s business as usual with us!

I am still not sure how one would entice jerking off surfers to purchase luxury brands in return for getting free porn… I agree that current model is in need of change, but I seriously doubt his way is the way of the future… it just makes no sense to me.
Also I highly doubt this deal with a big ad agency will ever go through… maybe for a softcore type of content like found on Playboy, ofcourse, but If he thinks that brand managers will want their luxury products associated with explicit porn that’s just crazy.
But hey, time will tell… as we all know every few months there’s a smart ass with a new viable idea for this biz. One of them is bound to work

Great. And doesn’t that just give tube sites loads more free porn to load up their sites. And seriously, does this guy really think that Dolce or Guici are going to advertise on porn sites? Someone ought to point this guy a brick wall so he can bash his head in before he goes broke.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in transforming yourself from a porn company into more of media company and sell ads. To me that is a very straight forward concept. I’m not clear exactly if this is the same model he’s going after. I need a bit of a flow chart to explain it to me - lol! we’ll see I guess.

But the smart gay webmaster will see that where the straight market goes, the gay one will go in a few years… It’s writing on the wall for us.
It’s interesting to try to see things from his perspective. I’m doubtful about his luxury brand approach on several levels. First, I doubt the luxury brands will continue to work with his Groupon-like program when they know it’s hurting their branding. And I don’t understand how someone who’s horny is going to want to stop to buy a luxury item. Maybe some gold digging women will think diamonds or Prada or Gucci is as good as sex, but he needs to appeal to horny men. I’m not sure they even want to think about football in the middle of jacking off…
Still, what I took away from the article is “what happens when porn becomes free?” 'Cause it’s moving there… I think some niches and brands will last longer than others but porn is rapidly becoming a low margin business and like any other product the business strategies change when the margins go down.

You may be right.
Question is, is every program owner here working to be a “huge” part of the industry? Maybe they are happy running a continually growing company with a annually increasing turnover? I totally agree that IF in the future sign-ups decrease to a stage where nobody can make a penny, this idea might be a good option, but honestly right now I can’t see it. With that I bet a lot of other site owners here are on the same page.
Like I said good luck to him. Maybe for the straight industry it’s a good time to do this on a small scale, but I don’t think the same related to the gay industry right now. We will see.
As a site owned I can say I make more right now off REBILLS alone to not warrant any kind of advertising solution hinted at in this news story.

If they give away our videos for free, we’ll pull out of there really quick. I’m sure they’ll lose nearly every studio they’ve got. Trailers are one thing, not what they’re talking about doing.

Well that might be, but it’s worrying and puts the long-term strategy of MaleFlixxx into question when it’s major owner doesn’t believe in the pay model or affiliates. Why would I put my faith in a company that’s owned by someone who wants to give content away for free? Competition for affiliates is fierce and if anything such a statement makes AEBN and Movie Dollars look all the more attractive.

So basically they are just a channel for distributing content… much like itunes is for music or movies. So who’s content will they be giving away for free? I am sure those big studio like Falcon, Jet Set Men and others won’t let that happen anytime soon…

Well this guy is probably talking about the content he owns in Private, which is quite a considerable amount. But a having such a man owning and ultimately being in charge of a VOD company does put their long term strategy or success in question. If Maleflixxx’s owner doesn’t believe in a pay model how can he make them successful?
Anyway who knows, just feel sorry for the guys who work at Maleflixxx trying to push affiliates to sell them and get new affiliates.

I wonder how much of this all has to do with the difference betweent he straight and gay markets. We all read that piece about the guy who charged back on GoDaddy. His wife scrutinized his VISA bill when it came in, called her husband about the GoDaddy charge, and when he said he didn’t buy anything, she charged back.
So, how does a husband buy porn on the Net when he knows his wife is going to be looking at his bill? How could he even pay cash at a bricks store when his wife seems to have such a tight reign on their finances?
I don’t think it’s so much like that in the gay market. Sure, there are some guys who would freak if their partner was looking at porn. But if Ted happened to see a $39.95 charge on my credit card, he’d be more mad that I didn’t share the password with him than pissed that I was looking at porn.

I guess if you are getting paid for the advertising up front, you can make your content a loss-leader, but unlike TV you can get a lot more statistics on the advertising people buy and more importantly the effectiveness of that advertising through simple tracking methods. The part that has me scratching my head is if people aren’t going to pay for porn, why would they pay for luxury items and experiences?

That part is simple - 'cause they want them and unlike porn, they can’t get them for free… They could get a knock off Prada bag, but they still have to pay something - even for a knock off.
