I’ve been set up to receive wire payments with CCBill for many years now. When the latest payment was due I noticed that it wasn’t arriving to my bank account so I inquired at CCBill and the tech support guy from their live support told me that they don’t/can’t send wire payments to their affiliates anymore. He mentioned something about banks becoming more restrictive with their policies etc.
He said I should change the payment method to SEPA or check, but since SEPA doesn’t exist for my country as an option, I can only choose check (which is the least convenient option for me).
If anyone here is also receiving CCBill payments by wire, have you also been informed about this, and what are the other options besides checks? The support guy said I could open a bank account in EU that supports SEPA, or a bank account in USA that supports ACH, but I have no idea what exactly to use. He mentioned transferwise dot com, but I don’t see my country in the list of supported countries there…
This is a really strange decision from ccbill, they’ve been sending wires for ages… This business becomes harder and harder to operate with every passing month.
Random question, but what country are you in ben? there are some strange laws regarding moving money and certain countries banks change their rules regularly.
Im thinking it might be more country specific rather than a total ban on wires, although i may be mistaken
I don’t think it’s a problem to open an account in euros at Transferwise. I think that they do not distinguish between EU citizens and others, so after registering you will be able to open a new account immediately. The potential problem is that they don’t like this industry and if they see where the payments come from, they can close your account without any warning. However, Transferwise is still an option because I don’t see how you could cash a check.
If you are in the EU / Europe it makes sense that they don’t want to use Wires. CCBill now has a separate entity here in the EU (CCbill EU) and I’m guessing they are using just SEPA payments now as other EU Businesses would do. Wires just isnt used between EU companies, there isn’t any reason to use it. I’m guessing that CCBill USA still uses wires.
You are right about Transferwise, they are not adult friendly. However depending on your setup maybe you can use an online bank like N26 which provides you with a IBAN number. But it really comes down to what country you are based in, if Transerwise doesn’t offer your country its unlikely that other online banks will.
They forced us to move as well to continue to receive payments. It was irritating, but thankfully we’d already set up something.
We can still receive wire transfers to our North American inc.
From our perspective, the new arrangement is technically legal, but kind of in the grey area. The original arrangement was 100% above-board with the person collecting income and paying taxes within his native country. Why that was termed problematic I have NO IDEA. We offered passport and bank letters, but to no avail.
