The site Ning announced Monday that it will discontinue hosting adult-oriented networks in its “Red Light District” as of January 1.
Ning […] says the decision was informed by the practical, not the philosophical. CEO and co-founder Gina Bianchini described the move as a logical step, taking into account all the problems adult content has caused for the site, including sub-par ad revenue, an increase in illegal adult social networks, and numerous DMCA take-down notices.
I’m glad to see it since some of my competitors are embedding Ning videos and getting a shitload of traffic as a result (I’ve seen the stats for one of them). Now I just need to get my act together with videos and find sponsors with longish bb promo videos…
Honestly, I haven’t thought about it much. I’d say 2 minutes minimum, but longer is better. I realize that if you hit 4 or 5 minutes you’re giving away a big percentage of the scene, so there are limits, but maybe it can be mixed with ‘behind the scenes’ sorta stuff that’s not as valuable.
I spliced all the promo videos for Cocksure Men together and that was 2.5 minutes. That was my best attempt to date, but a hassle to put together. I couldn’t get Flowplayer to play the mp4 (H.264) version, and on the FLV version there’s a problem where it doesn’t know where it is in the video. I think it’s cause the meta data have been put at the end of the file rather than the front, but I couldn’t get that fixed. I’ll keep playing with things until I get it all right

Thanks, but what I really need is a package that includes a set of photos to go along with the video. That list is geared more for tube sites…
To get an idea of what I’m shooting for - here’s a couple blog posts that demonstrate how I like to use video in blog posts…
The post about the launch of Breed Me Raw a couple days ago - uses an embed code for a video hosted by the sponsor along with 8 photos. The video is shorter than I’d ideally like, but the embed code is really easy to use and I save on bandwidth charges.
The post about the launch of Cocksure Men a week or two ago - I spliced all their promo videos together and came up with a video that was 2.5 minutes long. Again, it’s presented along with pics (10 in this case with a few nice big ones in there). I’m hosting the video in that case and there are some bugs I need to work on like the fact that I’d really rather use the mpeg 4 / H.264 version of the video but couldn’t get the player to play it even though it’s supposed to support it.
I almost never just show videos. Yes, the competitors who show Ning videos just show videos, but if I’m going to pay for bandwidth to host the video then I want to have a fully featured blog post that should sell well.
