I think the crosses (X) are OK. They do match the site’s logo after all.
Funny thing, I just visited a new sandwich shop where you mark your selections on a menu. The instructions specifically said to use an “X” to indicate your selection(s).
Taken in context I think the the crosses (X) are fine.

jms, we will look at those thumbs again, this tour is driven by our CMS so the preview videos and their thumbs update frequently and are generated from the CMS itself. But perhaps we can get better thumbs setup offline.
