If anyone has Netflix, I highly recommend watching the documentary about the couple that owned the book store in Los Angeles called “Circus of Books” the name of the documentary is the same name. Very interesting.
I agree, I also found it very interesting. It was great learning about some history too, there were a few things I didn’t know before I watched the documentary, so that made it even more enjoyable. The whole family seem like really nice people too.
I agree…the family was your typical family of the 80’s and 90’s…but I do understand why the mother didn’t want to tell her kids and other family members and friends. We went through the same thing back in 2001 when we started filming, it took us about 2yrs before we “came out of the closet” and finally told friends and family what we were doing and it ended up nobody cared and thought it was cool and exciting what we were doing.
I didn’t know that circus of book also was video 10 distributors…I contacted them a long time ago and wanted to see if they would distribute our VHS/DVD videos back in the day, and they did buy from us and one of the very few companies that paid in advance upfront and in full without any issues. A very good company to deal with, but back then I didn’t know the whole story until I watched this Netflix documentary about them…who knew?
I saw it when it when live on Netflix, I really enjoyed it and found it very interesting. But its also sad, how much have changed and I think a lot has gotten lost.
Oh yes…I like when the owner pulled out a graph showing there sales and the decline starting in 2008. It was like a nose dive…it was up and steady growing then 2008 and forward, total nose dive.
Its a shame how this industry has changed…first VHS/DVD’s and Magazines & adult movie theaters then that declined and mostly disappeared to make way for websites and that is going downhill as well and becoming the “dinosaur” of days past just like VHS/DVD’s and now we have social media sites and cam sites that are the new media that seems to be all the rage nowadays…who knows what’s next.
Awesome porn history!
I started watching it but got bored after 15 minutes. I suppose I’ll go back and watch the rest because this aspect of gay porn history does interest me, and I recall visiting that store several times, but I found the doc slow and boring so far.
