Near future trends in porn - what genres are growing?

Re: Near future trends in porn - what genres are growing?

Well, I imagine China does spend money on porn, but my experience, and I’m sure many other wm’s will bear this out, an Asian hotlinker on a bulletin board can send your bandwidth skyward.

Years ago when I ran Gay Porn Pig I had one Asian guy trying to download my entire site. It took my host 8 hours to diagnose the problem and finally block the guy. After that I blocked the whole country. Before that I thought I was being smart by uploading an image for hotlinkers that said, “Stolen from Gay Porn Pig” that just alerted a million other Chinese guy that Gay Porn Pig had free porn for the taking and hotlinking.

When I ran a paysite, most of China was banned by the billers and I only ever had one guy contact me to say, “Why can’t I buy a membership?”

I have also worked for a gay porn company who had a raft of Chinese guys working for the site and they all demonstrated quite well the culture of theft that exists in China. One new Chinese guy was given to me to train, so I showed him how to build a gallery and told him to make one. He came back 30 minutes later with a gallery with some of the most beautiful text I could have hoped to read. Suspicious because this guy’s broken English wouldn’t lead one to believe that he could write so well, I asked him where the text came from, “Oh, I cut and pasted it from Randy Blue.”

He looks incredulous when I told him he couldn’t do that. “Really? We did that all the time at the Chinese newspaper.” (He used to work for a mainstream Chinese newspaper in Toronto and said they just took whatever they wanted from wherever they could find it.

Re: Near future trends in porn - what genres are growing?

I once read an interview with the writer Paulo Coelho, where he talked about finding out all his books were being translated and distributed in Russia, where he had no publishing deal so received no income from his growing popularity there. He did something very interesting, he actively encouraged the distribution of his books there, while others were making money off it. He also included torrent links on his website for Russians to download the torrents.

Then when he released new books, he published them himself in Russia and made a fortune thanks to becoming so popular. I wonder if there is a way for sites that produce their own content exclusively to do similar. Sites that have their own style and voice unique to them. Kink.com for example.

The main question I have is what western sites are the Chinese and South Koreans signing up to? Is it the big brand sites (Playboys, Brazzers etc) that have the popularity and fame already (like Paulo had by the time he finally published books in Russia), or can smaller sites still make sales?
