Louisiana Requires ID To View Porn?

Very interesting first state to do this

There are so many issues with this that make it almost pointless. Is anyone else other than PornHub applying it? Maybe they are just using it as a test case for their adult checker platform…

I don’t see why parents should not be the ones responsible for installing adult content blockers on their kid’s devices if they want to restrict access… surely when you make the choice to breed, there has to be some parental responsibility…

From what I understand it’s not pornhub applying it but a state side somehow, where sites deemed to contain mainly porn are blocked automatically.

I am not so sure… if the state blocks it, how do they know if the user has completed the verification? still think it is PH voluntarily applying the rule…

The article I read about this said that any website that contains a certain percentage of adult content (i.e.: porn) is now at risk of being sued by someone in the state of Louisiana. This is part of the trend politicians have been doing lately to get rid of things they don’t like such as abortion, guns and now porn. They can’t write a law that outright bans these things so they write a law that grants citizens the right to sue the people involved in the things they don’t like, such as abortion providers in Texas, gun makers in California and now porn in Louisiana. I guess the idea is that if a mom in New Orleans catches her son watching porn she can now sue the porn site for allowing him access. We can only hope a huge company like Mindgeek gets sued and then counter-sues these moms for not being responsible parents.

Now the main reason I’m posting here is because I’m worried about my little corner of the adult industry, the handful of porn blogs and review sites I run. If I get sued that could ruin me. So what do I do? Does anyone know of a way to block people in Louisiana from accessing my sites? I know I can do that with overseas countries. I’ve been blocking Russia from my sites for awhile. Now I have to do it with Russia in the USA, otherwise known as Louisiana.

Jay posted a very good and detailed post about this over on Xbiz. I can’t figure out how to link to the actual post… If you do a search for “.htaccess” it will bring you right to the post I’m talking about.

It’s not perfect as he mentions. You will end up blocking some users from outside Louisiana and missing a lot of mobile users inside Louisiana.

At a minimum I guess it shows your intent.

Kevin.

::Rolls eyes:: … you are 100% correct… but who is going to police the adults to do the responsible thing? And how are they punished? A monetary fine? Time in jail? The possibilities boggle the mind.

I’m old enough to remember when parents/guardians could be fined and prosecuted for allowing their children to view 18+ content like horror movies or porn.

Those were the days when parental responsibility was a thing and parents weren’t able to blame the rest of the planet for their idiocy, incompetence or laziness.

You’re talking about a time when kids actually got grounded or given a spanking for various childhood misdeeds. I don’t see much of that anymore. It makes you wonder how the whole parent/child dynamic could unravel within a generation. But then I think about the war-like computer games, social media that isn’t getting restricted, the cell phone in every ear, $100 tennis shoes and the peer pressure to own them, the two parents working and a kid coming home to empty rooms and a microwave to make his dinner with. And I know that around here you either join a gang & carry a gun or get horribly bullied.

The only instances I have heard of lately of making a parent responsible for the action of his child has involved school shootings… either mass carnage or the killing of one teacher or fellow student.

Fixing this is nothing short of trying to stuff the jinn back into the bottle.
