I still submit quite a few AVS and freesites to link lists. I was looking at my traffic on one of my freesite hubs and after doing a bit of research, I culled my submissions way back. I used to submit to 20 different link lits, but I’ve cut that back to eight.
It’s just not worth submitting to a link list and getting 2 visitors a day. Other link lists take forever to approve your submission. I also try and submit a couple every day so they get spaced out, but then some lists will approve everything all at once, so I end up with six listings on a Tuesday. :bang:
Here’s a screen grab of the top eight link lists that have been sending me the most traffic. I dropped everyone else.
It’s too bad, there were a lot of link lists who, a couple of years ago, were sending gobs of traffic, now they’re down to nothing.
I know in my own case at GayDemon, that I send out less traffic to free/avs sites because I’ve expanded into different areas, i.e. blog section, reviews etc. There probably isn’t that many actual real Link Lists left who’s only content is links. It won’t help either that Google is likely to have devalued directories and link lists as they don’t have any real content of their own. It’s harder now than ever to score well with a link list on searches. A few years back the big gay keywords were dominated by link lists but now its content sites, tubes, blogs etc.
I’ve myself kept an eye on link lists over the last 18months, slowly they are disappearing one by one. At least in terms of how much traffic they send out.
It’s a shame you took me off your submit list dzinerber, you were one of the only submitters I could count on for decent quality fresh links. Link list traffic has dropped considerably across the board, but it’s still of much higher quality than TGP traffic.
Well it’s good to see that My Gay Link List is in your top 8 Michael. I’m curious though - Didn’t Macho Links and Gay Man List stop taking submissions? Are you still submitting to Macho Links?
Bjorn is certainly correct about link lists not getting the search engine hits they used to get. It sure sucks. It’s quite frustrating as a link list owner too.
I have no plans of closing My Gay Link List or changing it from being predominantly a link list. I started it to generate traffic and that’s what I will continue to do with it. I’ll do what I can to get it more SEO friendly though. While it’s done ok considering what I’m contending with, I aim to keep at it and do better.
And it’s not much better from the link-list end either. In the past month I deleted over 2,000 dead sites. I found about 100 more today & haven’t yet finished reviewing. I used to run my link-check program once a month, but at this rate I may have to start doing it once a week.
And it has definitely become much harder to find decent sites to list. Even with the more meager pickings, I’m rejecting almost as many as I list. And some of those “webmasters” are now beyond rude when I do.
‘Retirement’ may start looking better & better very soon. This has always been nothing more than a hobby for me, but a hobby is supposed to have at least an element of fun to it. I’m not so sure I can say that anymore.

Hobby? You got masses of traffic! But you’re right, a lot of Hub or Free/AVS Site networks are slowly closing down. Seems like some old submitters given up and not renewed their domains. Slightly odd though as my own free sites have decent ratios, there is still money to be had. I’ve also noticed some old webmasters are switching from Free Sites to Blogs, but spamming them out like they were Free sites… which I can’t see working out.
Are you gaypornlinx.com? If so I removed you because your submit form wasn’t working for a while and I wouldn’t know if it worked or not until I hit submit.
If it’s working, and you’re approving links, I’m happy to start submitting again … you always sent good traffic.
If any of you are looking for new link lists to submit to, My top link lists for bathhouseblues.com are
PLU Gay Blogs
Best Male Blogs
Mambaonline
Gay Porn Links
Gay Porn Engine
SMAQ
My Gay Link List
Older Men Links
Asian Gay Links
Hunk Hunter
Adult Blog Directory
It’s good to see http://www.gaypornlinks.org is in both (Michael’s and Terry’s) list. It’s getting harder and harder to drive good quality traffic to my linklists. SE traffic is down and it’s hard to find good traffic that is for sale. I am very busy deleting sites that do no longer exsist as well. It seems a lot of people gave up on free sites and just let their domains expire.
I would like to invite blog owners to submit individual blog posts to http://www.malesharing.com - it’s already sending good traffic and traffic is growing fast. Thanks!

ManPics2000 is awesome! I get the best traffic from you by far. Thank you for keeping this resource alive!

Yes, http://www.gaypornlinx.com/ is mine. I changed hosts and the script that I use (LinkAdmin) is a pain in the ass to move to a different host, thankfully the support at National Net is top notch and they hacked together some code to make it work.
It took a while to get the script itself, and then the captcha working with it, but it’s all working 100% now and I’d love to list your sites again
I agree with the others, ManPics sends exceptional traffic. Just a hobby? That’s amazing.
How are you guys defining “great traffic”? Do you just go by number of visits or do you ever set up free sites just for one particular link list and track conversions by the link list sending traffic?
