This is my first time to do an “link exchange”, I would like to do this for a week or so and see how profitable it is for me.

It doesn’t work like that. Link exchanges you don’t do on a weekly basis and you won’t suddenly make a profit from it. It’s just a way to build either a bit of extra visitors or incoming links to your site which can benefit you in Google.
