So I recently started using twitter for blog posts, and it’s really pretty neat. You can add a post, tweet, and then see the visitors arriving.
But I’m wondering what guys do for hashtags?
That’s still a part of it that I don’t understand. If I add #gayporn, is that the same as adding #gay_porn ? And does anyone know how to find them?
I know these might seem like stupid questions, but Twitter is something I have struggled to understand for a while. I know what it’s for and that it’s a really interesting form of communication, but I just don’t understand the rules and tricks.
Hashtags are used to set keywords and to categorize tweets. You can use the hashtag anywhere in your tweet. It enables people to find your tweets when they are searching for that particular topic. You need to write the words as one word or connect them with an underscore or other sign (most people just write keywords as one word). #New York doesn’t work, as in this example NEW would be your keyword. It’s better to write #NewYork
When people click your words marked with a hashtag, they will be taken to a page with similar tweets all containing the same keywords.
When a lot of people use a hashtag in front of a keyword, that topic can become trending (see list in the sidebar). Yesterday Lady Gaga ruled the Twitter scene again, because all her fans were tweeting about her new single #Judas or #LadyGaga. Twitter does look at other words (without a hashtag) to determine what’s trending, but usually the words marked with a hashtag are the most popular.
You can either use #gayporn, #sitename or #modelname to set your keywords. However, those will probably never become trending topics.
