I’ve just been looking at the site http://chargebacks.co/?page=home and wondering if any site owners here dispute chargebacks they receive either with the processing companies or services like this that assist you in claiming back the money? Is there a way to try to claim back chargebacks en mass without having to send claims for many individual small purchases that are charged back?
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
I never bothered trying to do anything about chargebacks. It’s a difficult issue because, on the one hand, I think the ill-will you get from the member charging back probably spoils that member from signing up with any other porn site if you’re making his life difficult; but on the other, if they don’t have a legitimate gripe and are just milking the system, then they probably ought to be taught a lesson.
And a good percentage of those people will likely make your life a living hell. They’ll bitch at their credit card company and probably start circulating around boards and tarnishing your reputation. Is it worth the $15?
However, if you’re a big site owner with lots of transactions, it’s a piss off to see all that money just disappearing from your bank account.
Trying an experiment is probably a good idea. Perhaps you might only go after people charging back multiple months at the same time and leave the one-monthers alone.

Michael - You were on CCBill. CCBill has a policy that if you chargeback on a card, the card is blocked with CCBill forever. I know 'cause I charged back close to a year’s worth of memberships at one point when a site didn’t stop billing me and I wasn’t paying attention to my credit card statements. It’s one of the ways where working with CCBill is helpful. The threat of a dead card isn’t such a big deal when the sponsor is on NATS and the card will only their sites will go dead.
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
Chargeback collection is great if you have big volume.
The problem with those services for small site owners is that you need quite a big volume of chargebacks for them to take you on as a client, and I’d venture to guess that only a very small percentage of sites actually reach those minimums.
Even with decent sales volume, you need a pretty bad site to reach the minimum chargeback volume
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
I never thought of that point. If you have such a high chargeback volume, and you generate even more complaints from pissed off members getting calls from collection agencies, you could actually be shooting yourself in the head with processors and credit card companies.
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
I think everyone involved (credit card companies and IPSPs) understand that chargebacks often result from fraud on the member’s part… but the one thing we can’t dismiss is a pissed off customer going to all surfer boards (ie: JUB) and badmouthing your site.
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
I’ve never bothered. My chargeback rates are like less than 0.5 % and have always been like that. Is that even worth bothering for a small site owner?
Re: Do any site owners here dispute chargebacks?
Don’t billing agreements with adult processors specifically bar you from doing any type of chargeback collection? I thought I heard talk about that awhile back…
