i was wondering if anyone here uses spam arrest or mailwasher pro and what the issues are - any privacy issues, for example? i’ve had it with all these spam filters i’ve tried - one of them had no whitelist, and although i got very little spam, i also missed 2 really important emails, one of which led to a bounced check
Used mailwasher pro trial for a bit, about a year ago, it was okay, never really got into it, as I got Kaspersky as the trial was about over, and it did the same thing as far as I could see, so never bought the final pro version.
I think Spamarrest is pretty good. Some dumb spammers authorise themselves but you can then quickly block their email address. Ive heard Chip say that some of his emails dont reach Spamarrest customers so Id advise talking to him first.
I clear 2-3 pages of blocked spam per day. Very rarely do I find an email that the sender hasnt authorised but should have but I check every day just in case, as its pretty quick to glance through the spam.
Spam Arrest seems good, BUT and its a big BUT… I’ve noticed often that the authorization emails send out by Spam Arrest gets treated at Spam, which makes them easy to miss.
well, after 3 weeks of living hell, i’ve been using mailwasher pro since yesterday, and at last i can live a normal life again LOL it’s exactly what i was looking for, although it doesn’t work in the way i expected. and strangely, one of my favorite fantasy authors wrote one of their testimonials - go figure!
Do you have your addresses on websites? I use contact forms instead. For sponsors I create a forwarder ([email protected]). Which is easily switched off if it is abused.
For my personal address I create a new one each year: [email protected]. Regular contacts start using this straight away because they just hit reply. The idea is I can turn off the old ones but in fact 2002 is the only one I’ve scrapped so far.
Spam Assassin is turned off and about 50 emails get through each day, none of which are spam
in 1996, 97 and 98 i gave one email to everyone. in 1999, a bunch of us put our email addresses on a site that made us available for trades. everyone on that site started getting the same spams. the thing is that by 2001 or so, i had signed up for over 500 sponsors and hundreds of other webmasters had that email address, and when the spam got bad, there was no way to keep track of them all so i could change them.
[quote=DirtyRatStudios;12674]Not sure why you all get so much spam!
