Natnet blackout??

Re: Natnet blackout??

My sites just went back up. Must have been that phone call I made to my host. I was rather…assertive, shall we say  Let’s hope everyone else goes back up soon too.

Re: Natnet blackout??

My blogs appear to be back up again and Stats Remote seems to be working, too.

Re: Natnet blackout??

Ouch!

A little downtime is bound to happen from time to time. 5 Hours all at once is painful. Still 99.9% uptime though.

Re: Natnet blackout??

StatsRemote back up for me as well…

Still looks like IntenseCash is down??

Sincerely,
Kevin.

I think that spike in your traffic must have taken the network down lol

Mine looks pretty much the same - just more blue on my graph…

Well with all that traffic you send us, it’s no wonder they couldn’t handle it

Re: Natnet blackout??

Atlanta took quite the pounding I see today.

Re: Natnet blackout??

And this article says they’re going to do it all over again tomorrow.

Re: Natnet blackout??

I hope NatNet will come forward with a more public explanation of what happened, and how they will prevent these things from happening again. Even the promise of 99.9 % uptime is not enough acceptable these days. Suppose airlines ran like that? Nobody would fly!

Re: Natnet blackout??

Did you not read this article? The area has been getting hit pretty hard over the past couple of days. When a city’s infrastructure is severely affected / damaged, all kinds of things can happen regardless of how well you plan.

Look on the bright side: it happened during the day when most of America is still at work and it happened on a Wednesday, which is typical the slowest day of the week, and finally, it was only five hours. So we lost a few sales, it’s not the end of the world.

In all the years that I’ve been with NatNet, this is the worst thing I can remember happening. So that’s pretty good.

Re: Natnet blackout??

I received a very sincere apology email from Tony. I won’t post the whole email but I don’t think he’d mind if I give you a few snippets from it as it pertains to all who are hosting with them.

We have a very good track record of preventing these types of events from affecting us but occasionally even NationalNet experiences some down time. In 15 years this is the worst outage we have ever had and it is the first network wide outage of any kind for the past several years. I just wished that it did not take as long as it did to totally resolve.

As I have always told my customers, I cannot promise you perfection…no hosting company can…what I can promise you, however, is that when the times comes we will be here working with every resources that we have available to combat the problem….and we did that today. I can also promise you that over the next week my people will complete a detailed Post Mortem that will tell us exactly what happened, why it happened, and how we will prevent it from happening in the future. I have always believed that if we were going to suffer through an outage we should make sure we learn from it.

IntenseCash up went back up with the rest of the sites affected by NatNet. IDK I remember hurricane Katrina hitting directnic and they never went down for a second and they were downtown. So I hope Nat Net learns from this and fixes things so this never happens again.

Re: Natnet blackout??

We’re having some really bad weather over here in Phoenix as well and our Internet keeps going in and out  Makes it hard to get any work done. And it doesn’t look much better for the next couple of days.

Re: Natnet blackout??

Yeah, that’s what I couldn’t understand at all.

Re: Natnet blackout??

Does anyone know the real story of why they went down? I think it was way more than a DNS issue. I have Enom hosting my DNS and I was still down. I couldn’t even ping my IPs. I was in the middle of doing a support ticket when they went down, so when I put the ticket in today I asked what happened and they ignored my question and just focused on my support issue.

Re: Natnet blackout??

This was posted on GFY by natnet.

Hey Guys…

I totally understand your frustrations…believe me, we are right there with you. I assure you we are working with everything we have to get this resolved. We have the problem isolated but have not yet gotten it totally under control. We have brought in a team of engineers from Cisco that are working with our team and will remain engaged through the resolution. I am hoping that it will not be much longer…just bear with us.

I am so very sorry for the problems…we have been doing this for 15 years now with many, many years of great service but it still makes it no easier when just one customer is having an issue let alone the whole bunch. Thanks so very much for your patience.

Not much more information than you probably already have but a little more…

Sincerely,
Kevin.

Re: Natnet blackout??

Maybe somebody tripped over the extension cord and pulled the plug out of the wall and nobody noticed it for awhile.

Re: Natnet blackout??

That wouldn’t be surprising at all. lol

Interesting.

Re: Natnet blackout??

Probably not far from the truth.
